Overview
Cabales Serrada Escrima is the fighting art of the late Grand Master Angel Cabales (1917-1991). Angel began teaching his art in Stockton, California in 1966 and is acknowledged as the first person to publicly teach Filipino Martial Arts in the United States. Angel is widely considered the “Father of Escrima” in the United States, and his influence can be seen in many other Filipino Martial Arts styles practiced today.
Cabales Serrada Escrima is a weapon-based art that includes instruction in the use of single stick, single blade, and espada y daga (short sword or stick and dagger). Training begins with an introduction to the twelve basic strikes or angles of attack and basic defenses against them. Once students have gained proficiency with the basic strikes and counters, the core drills of lock and block and flow sparring are incorporated. Empty hand techniques and joint locks are also taught.
